INSIDE THE SHACK/ CONTROL ROOM
littered with papers, half-full coffee cups, and a confusion
of wires and very low-tech,
UNDERWATER
JACQUES touches bottom. Clamps his legs around a rock to
hold himself down. Unhurried, thoroughly at home, 40 feet
under... he opens the plastic bag. A huge speckled moray
eel appears in a hole in the rock, slithers toward him.
The carnivores jaws are bigger than the boys head.
The boy smiles at him. Pulls a piece of raw meat out of
his bag and holds it out. The eel takes the morsel

motors roar again... But a mans hand grabs Danny
by the straps of his overalls and jerks him from the cockpit.
Its Dannys FATHER and hes a fearsome sight; drunk, his
hair uncombed, his face unshaven, his teeth -- those still
left -- are rotting. Hes also missing an arm; but the one
thats left is potent, and hes shaking Danny with it.

UNDERWATER - NIGHT
Camera moving toward: A FIGURE in diving gear working at the
metal bars with an oxygen arc cutting torch. One bar has
already been cut out. Two quick cuts and a second bar falls to
the muddy bottom. Lit now only from the floodlights filtering
down through the ice, the figure slips through the bars and
swims powerfully along the stone canal wall.
Seem from below, the figure is
underwater -- rip something into a bloody cloud.

EXT. BLUE BAY SCHOOL - DAY
A place of money and privilege. White coral buildings surround
an open yard. Tile roofs rise among banyan trees and banana
palms, shimmering before a blue blaze of sky.
Beyond the yard is the schools playing field and beyond that the
waters of Biscayne Bay, dappled in sunlight where the sloops of

PROPELLER SOUND. Materializing out of the blue limbo is the enormous but
sleek form of an Ohio-class SSBN ballistic missile submar
motor WHINES, the ropes TIGHTEN and
the window...
...POPS FREE, hangs SUSPENDED by the Kevlar ropes which amazingly
sustain its awesome weight. The huge pane shudders in the wind,
and the Thief slips...
...INTO the Penthouse. Nearby, an ALARM BOX softly BEEPS its
60-second warning to the pulsing of a green light, and the Thief
attaches a small computerized DEVICE which runs a series of

UNDERWATER - NIGHT
An enourmous Japanese BATHYSCAPHE free-falls through the water. An
autonomous fifteen-man submersible. Almost futuristic in its design.
The nose cone is an amazing ultra-high-pressure plexi-dome. LETTERING
along the side tells us this is the "SHINKAI 90000."
